Sports Chaplaincy

 

A growing number of professional and amateur sports clubs are benefiting from the involvement of Sports Chaplaincy  Ireland , the Christian charity who are part of Sports Chaplaincy UK &  Ireland and Global Sports Chaplaincy and who help coordinate and facilitate the activities of chaplain within sport in Ireland.

Chaplaincy is primarily aimed at the care and welfare of players and staff.

 

Sports Chaplaincy UK and Ireland  has been in existence for over 30 years .They work in close partnership with clubs and sports governing bodies who recognise the need for quality pastoral and spiritual care and support and encouragement within their sport.

 

There are now close to 1,000 unique chaplaincy roles across the UK & Ireland. They are endorsed by the Premier League ,SFA , PFA , Irish FA and Welsh Hockey amongst others and are the recognised suppliers for this kind of specialist support to sport and a number of those organizations help fund their work.

 

So it is widely considered as not just a good idea but also important .

 

The Chaplain is there because they care about the sports people at the club and are there to serve everyone of all Faith backgrounds and no faith open-handedly  demonstrating  integrity, working  professionally, caring sensitively and maintaining confidentiality

Sports Chaplaincy UK & Ireland provides training, resources, sharing of best-practice and supervision for a national network of Chaplains involved in a wide range of sports helping equip them to be as fit as possible to serve in their sports environment

Sports Chaplaincy UK & Ireland  identifies suitable local people and prepares them for that work. The three-way relationship between Club, Chaplain and Sports Chaplaincy UK is based on a clear ‘code of practice’, describing the principles and expectations on which the relationship is built.
