Safeguarding & Vetting

Cricket Ireland and North West Cricket Union as a Provincial Union are committed to safeguarding the wellbeing of its members. Every Cricket Club with youth teams and/or youth players has a duty of care not only to children but all the members of their club.

 

For clubs to be compliant in their Safeguarding obligations, the following four steps must be followed and completed in full prior to the season with a commitment to ensuring that step 5 will be completed as and when an individual is required to be vetted.

 

Steps to be completed:

 

  • Review and complete the Child Safeguarding statement display and promote to members and stakeholders (on website and/or displayed in club)

 

 

  • Appoint a Club Children’s officer (ROI/NI) and Designated liaison person (ROI), these persons must be vetted and appropriately trained

 

  • Implement Cricket Irelands Safe recruitment policy – Ensuring all coaches/volunteers working with children attend Safeguarding training, and are vetted as well as being aware of CI code of conduct and reporting procedures

 

  • All persons in the club who will be in continuous or regular contact with children must complete their Garda vetting or Access NI prior to beginning their role

 

Send a confirmation email to Provincial union to confirm all the above, please include name and contact details of persons in named positions (Designated Liaison / Children’s Officer positions)

 

 

A checklist can be found on the Cricket Ireland website  – which will guide clubs to any documents needed to complete the steps. If there are any further queries in relation to the above or your club requires support in this area, please contact your Provincial Union or the Safeguarding Officer at Cricket Ireland.

 

It should be noted where clubs have not engaged with their home Union or Cricket Ireland to provide contact details of Children’s Officers and Designated Liaison Persons (ROI) to their PU by 20th March, they can be excluded from league and All Ireland competitions.

 

This does not refer to total compliance but a willingness to engage in the process and use the supports being offered in order to show that the club itself is committed to safeguarding.
