Women’s World Champions set for Bready Tri-Series

The North West Cricket Union is delighted to announce that Bready Cricket Club will be the setting this summer for a Women’s International T20 tri-series featuring Ireland, Pakistan and current World Cup winners, Australia.

The competition will be played from July 16-24 with the teams set to play each other twice over the course of the nine days. All six games will be played at Bready CC with Eglinton hosting training sessions for all 3 teams.

The series is a massive coup for the NWCU to attract Australia, who are the World T20 Champions and Number 1 ranked team in the world.  NWCU General Manager Peter McCartney was thrilled to have brought a tournament of this standing to the region.

“We are delighted to be hosting the Ireland Women’s team this summer and this is a huge boost for not only for cricket but the region. We can’t forget that Pakistan are ranked 7th in World and in their own right would be a big draw. But to be also bringing the World Cup T20 winners to Bready shows how ambitious we are and the standing of cricket in the North West area.

Bready did a superb job hosting Zimbabwe last year and I’ve no doubt their team of dedicated volunteers will step-up again this summer. We must also recognise Eglinton, who are a vital part of this series, and being able to offer such a high-quality training venue was key to us securing the series.

I’d like to thank Bready, Eglinton and the Derry City & Strabane District Council, who have all been very supportive in securing such a high profile series.”

It is a week that is sure to capture the imagination of the Irish cricket public and further details on tickets and start times will be posted in due course.
