Women’s senior semi-finals set for Sunday

There’s a frenetic weekend of league and cup cricket coming up over the next couple of days and the much-anticipated schedule also features the semi-finals of the Women’s senior cup on Sunday.

Holders Fox Lodge have a wonderful record in this competition, winning five of the last six renewals and skipper Hannah McLaughlin will be delighted to have Tanisha Hussain in the side again for the visit of Strabane after she missed much of the first half of the season with a back injury.

The Red Caps have never made any secret of the fact that this stage of their development is all about building a base for the future, and while they will be giving this everything, their long-term objectives won’t live or die on how they fare here.

Bready have a similar record in the league as the Foxies do in the cup but the Magheramason side would clearly like to get one over on the ‘yellows’ this season.

To do that of course they have to go to Eglinton on Sunday morning and win, and while Bready are very much the form team, having posted a big league win at this venue on Monday night past, the villagers do have the quality to make things difficult.

Alana Dalzell is of course key to the visitors’ options but there are several others capable of match-winning performances in the Bready camp and it’s the same at Eglinton where Jenni Jackson, Arianna McKenna and Alice McLaughlin are three such players for them.

The Eglinton v Bready game gets under way at 11 am- these are 30 over matches, remember- while Fox Lodge v Strabane starts at 2 pm.

This year’s final will take place at Eglinton on Friday 19 July (please note start time of 3pm) with the game preceded by the Girls under-13 final.

The best of luck to all involved and we’ll have a report on the semi-finals in due course.
