Women’s League wins for Eglinton, Fox Lodge and Bready
Week 2 of the senior Women’s League saw three more games decided with the match between Coleraine and Eglinton proving the closest of the night. The Bannsiders have only been training together for a few weeks, however Stephen McCartney’s team improved again from their opening defeat at Bready to run the villagers really close in this one.
Batting first, Zara Craig made an excellent 45 (6 fours) as the visitors posted 88-4 in their 16 overs. Zara was backed up by Arianna McKenna who made 14 not out while Kia McCartney (2-9) was the pick of Coleraine’s bowlers.
Kenya McCartney top scored for her side at Magheramason last week and it was the same again here as she made 29 in the reply. Eva Gaston batted really well for her 25 but the Eglinton bowlers were able to do enough to stay in front as Coleraine closed on 78-3- just 10 runs short.
Bready posted another big win after they dismissed Killyclooney for 31. Jemma Rankin returned figures of 3-1 and Sophie Killen 3-5 as they took control with the ball. Alana Dalzell made 17 not out as Bready passed the target in the 8th over.
Fox Lodge are on the board too after they secured a 27-run win over neighbours Strabane. Emma Allen made 18 and Mollie Devine 13 as the Foxies scored 81-7 from their 20 overs. Anji Porter-McHugh with 2-7 and Emma Macbeth (2-12) fared best with the ball for Strabane.
The Red Caps could never really get going in reply- Anji top scoring with 26 as they were restricted to 54-4 from their 20 overs. Lucy Neely claimed 2-13 and Kara Bates 1-13 as Fox Lodge sealed the win.
