Women’s League wins for Coleraine and Eglinton

Coleraine stole the headlines as the Senior Women’s League resumed on Monday night after the Bannsiders beat Fox Lodge by 17 runs on the north coast.

Stephen McCartney’s charges have been a revelation since joining the league last season and they showed tonight that they have improved again for that bit of experience.

The home team posted a competitive 90-7 from their 20 overs courtesy in the main of a 48-run stand between Eva Gaston (22) and Rachel Johnston (18). Kia McCartney added 13, with Lucy Neely (2-14) and Sarah Black (2-15) best with the ball for the visitors.

The Foxies could never really get going in reply but credit again here to Lucy who scored an excellent 32 (2 fours, 1 six) to keep them in with a chance.

Emma Allen (12) was the only other player to make double figures as Eva completed a player-of-the-match performance with figures of 4-15. Amy Caulfied was excellent too with a spell of 3-5 with Kia and Kenya McCartney also on target.

A really impressive win this for Coleraine and a threat to the dominance of Bready and Fox Lodge might just be on the cards this season.

In the other game, Eglinton had a comfortable 9-wicket win against a young Strabane side at the Park.

Chloe Deans top scored with 8 as the Red Caps set a total of 43- Lucy Carmichael with 4-11, Jenny Jackson 2-3 and Alice McLaughlin 2-9 all bowling really well for the villagers.

Arianna McKenna made an excellent 25 not out and Alice added 10 not out as Eglinton won with plenty to spare.
