Women’s Future Series continues next week

It’s the girls’ turn in the Cricket Ireland Future series next week with a four team, 50-over tournament being co-hosted between Bready and Stormont from 24-28 July.

The first two days will take place at Magheramason with Cricket Leinster taking on NCU on the top field and the North West girls hosting Ireland under-17’s on the main pitch on Monday (11.45 starts).

Leinster will then play the North West on Tuesday while the NCU will pay the Irish side at the same time (10.30am starts).

Wednesday is a rest day before action resumes in Belfast on Thursday with games between Leinster and Ireland under-17s and North West v NCU (both 11,45am).

Finals day is on Friday, again at the Civil Service venue, with finishing positions from the earlier round-robin deciding the line up, which will see first in the table taking on second, while third and fourth will also play-off- those matches starting at 10.30am.

Women Warriors Coach David Scanlon said selection had been hampered by five players being required for Ireland duty at under-15 and under-17 level for the week ahead.

“We have a couple of girls in the Ireland under-17 squad for this series and three away with the under-15s as well.

“Kia McCartney is out through injury but I’m really confident in the squad we’ve named that we can perform really well throughout the tournament.

“It’s a really exciting squad with talent the whole way through and everyone has worked really hard over the winter and during the current season to be ready for the Future Series.”
