Women’s Cup holders Bready knocked out by Fox Lodge
Fox Lodge pulled off something of a surprise at Magheramason tonight when they ended Bready’s reign as Women’s Cup holders in a thrilling quarter-final tie.
The first attempt was abandoned on Monday night with the home side in a very promising position but it was something of a turnaround this time as the Ballymagorry girls held their nerve.
Batting first, the home side were stunned to be reduced to 43-8 by some accurate bowling from Angel Laird (3-16) and Mollie Devine (1-9 from 4 overs), with Kara Bates, Sarah Black and two run-outs accounting for the other wickets.
Alana Dalzell top scored with 21 but it needed a late stand between Mansi Bhavsar (17 not out) and Charlie Scott (15 not out) to get Bready up to a respectable 79-8 from their 20 overs.
The Foxies lost a couple of early wickets before a 43-run stand between Lucy Neely and Hannah McLaughlin (18) got them back on track.
They were finding scoring difficult however and went into the last over with heavy clouds rolling in and still needing 11 to win.
Lucy was still there along with skipper Mollie and those two battled their way through to get it to 5 needed off the last ball.
The 13-year old made some connection with the final delivery to send it sailing over the rope- Lucy finishing unbeaten on a match-winning 40 with her batting partner 10 not out in a superb 7-wicket win.
