Women’s campaign to start tonight – Rachel McBrine preview

As we saw the return of the men’s domestic cricket season this past weekend in the North West, now is time for the return of the 2020 Women’s season to begin on Monday 20 July.

Due to the horrendous effects of Covid-19 the format of the women’s fixtures has been shortened with a spilt to the initial T16 league followed by a T10 cup to ensure the all areas of women’s cricket goes ahead this season.

Matches will take place every Monday and Thursday evenings starting at 6.30pm and each club advises that anyone attending games are to respect the ‘Safe Return to Play’ protocols they each have in place to ensure that all players, umpires, and ground staff are in a safe environment. Current NI Executive restrictions mean that spectators are not allowed at matches.

Speaking to the North West Cricket Union, Killyclooney captain Jessica McDonald said,

“I am extremely pleased to see the return of the ladies’ cricket. Even though the season would almost be over at this time, its great to have a sense of normality back.

My girls are as eager as ever to get back playing and we are hopeful that we can have a successful season again this year.’’

The U19 Warriors Girls squad started their summer training yesterday at Bready in advance of a busy summer schedule, with the U13 Girls also due to start training this Friday.
