Women’s 40-over competition starts on Sunday

The NWCU are to trial a new 40-over competition for Women’s teams in the coming weeks with the first game, between Bready and a southern select, pencilled in for Strabane this Sunday at 12 noon.

The option remains to introduce a northern select with competing teams to play each other twice across a 4-6 week summer window.

The Union has enjoyed a fair degree of recognition in the Women’s game this season already- Alana Dalzell currently on duty with the senior International squad playing South Africa while Mollie Devine, Zara Craig and Kia McCartney have been included in the national Development Training Squad.

This new series will provide those players and indeed others who harbour ambitions of playing representative cricket the opportunity to test themselves in this format.

Sunday’s squads have now been announced with Bready’s panel from- Kaylee Barnard, Sophie Killen, Vanessa Buchanan, Amy Campbell, Mansi Bhavsar, Millie Spence, Tanisha Hussain, Steph Wilkinson, Jemma Rankin, Charley Scott, Alex Dalzell and Sophie Hamilton.

The southern XI will be skippered by Mollie Devine and include Chloe Deans, Kacey Laird, Lucy Neely, Lucy Thompson, Sarah Macbeth, Lucy McGranaghan, Emma Doherty, Emma Macbeth, Sarah Black and Kylie McGarrigle.

We would encourage anyone who might be free on Sunday afternoon to come along and enjoy the action.
