West Indies Seal Under-13 World Cup Victory
A hugely successful under-13 World Cup tournament ended with a sensational finish at the Rectory this afternoon as the West Indies beat Australia by 2 runs at a sun-splashed Glendermott.
The Magheramason side were deserving winners, having won all ten of their matches throughout the week; edging out a Holm team that lost just twice- both times to the competition winners.
A huge crowd was there to witness the nail-biting finish as the bowling side held their nerve in the last couple of overs, despite pressure from the Aussies.
The plate final at Bready was won by New Zealand (Eglinton) who beat Sri Lanka (Bonds Glen) by 7 wickets.
Bobby Brolly (India/Ardmore) picked up the tournament batting award for the second year running while Rhys Thompson (New Zealand/Eglinton) won the bowling award.
Roy McGerrigle who had an outstanding tournament for Australia/Donemana won the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ award.
