North West Holds Welcome To Coaching Course
The North West got this years Club and Coach Education calendar underway with a Welcome to Coaching Course at the Vale Centre in Greysteel last Sunday.
10 North West clubs were represented on the Course at The Vale Centre, Greysteel last weekend, with 15 newly qualified coaches gaining their Welcome to Coaching Certificate.
Cricket Irelands Coach Education Manager, who was part of the tutor team, said
“It was a great effort by all involved and some really good discussions, getting the coaches to talk about their own experiences and looking to develop some new coaching ideas. CICA are delighted to be able to support this course and the NWCU with their Coach development programmes, which run alongside their Active Clubs and other development projects.”
Through support from The Derry Midweek League, Limavady CRFC and the North West Active clubs Program, this course was free to attend.
Sam McPherson, Chairman of the Derry Midweek League said
“We are delighted to be able to give back something to those clubs who have supported the charity for over 50 years. We feel that assisting the clubs to gain new coaches by subsidising or offering free courses will not only develop the clubs but cricket as a whole in the North West.”
This year the Coach Education Calendar has expanded dramatically from previous seasons with the input of the NWCU Active Clubs Program and supported by the Derry Midweek. Coaches will have the opportunity to attend workshops on Fast Bowling, Batsmanship, Captaincy and Spin Bowling. There will also be a workshop for club professionals to attend on coaching in schools & club evironments.
There will be a Certificate in Coaching (level 2) running in the North West in February, which with the support of the North West Active Clubs Program and the Derry Midweek League it be heavily subsidised from originally costing £250 per head. The fee will be collected in the form of a £100 donation to the Derry Midweek, with added incentive of receiving £50 of this back if you complete your online and coaching sessions by the 30th of June 2017.
In addition to The Coaching Courses, the North West Active Clubs Program will be running a Safeguarding Course and a Designated Officer Course in March to help clubs meet current safeguarding procedures and work towards their Club Licensing Scheme & Accreditation.
