Warrios post impressive win over Knights

The North West Warriors got their IP T20 campaign off to an excellent start at Pembroke earlier today with a 7-wicket win over the Northern Knights.

A superb performance in the field was the catalyst for the impressive win as Gary Wilson’s charges restricted the Belfast side to a modest 135-9 in their 20 overs.

A first wicket stand of 41 between James McCollum and Luke Georgeson was the highlight of that- McCollum going on to top score with 48 (7 fours, 1 six).

After that the bowlers were well on top- Graham Kennedy with 2-21, Graham Hume (2-30) as well as wickets for Andy McBrine, Jared Wilson, Craig Young and Ross Allen keeping their side in front at the half way stage.

The Warriors came flying out of the blocks at the start of their reply and even though William Porterfield was dismissed in the 4th over for 15, he and Stephen Doheny already had 41 knocked off their target by then.

Nathan McGuire (14) and Doheny very quickly took that to 69 before the opener and Shane Getkate kept the rapid momentum going with 45-run stand in just 3 overs.

Doheny was out just before the end for a superb 54 (8 fours, 2 sixes) but Getkate with 36 not out (5 fours and 2 sixes off 13 balls) and Willie McClintock (16 not out) saw the North West side cruise to the win with almost 9 overs to spare.

A magnificent all-round effort this from Andy McBrine and his team that gives them a really solid platform for the rest of the weekend.

Next up for the Warriors is the Munster Reds tomorrow (Saturday) at 4pm.

The North West Warriors are sponsored by Fleming-Agri whose logo will appear on the new playing kit and on advertising boards around the boundary. The support of Fleming-Agri is hugely appreciated by Warriors players, coaches and the NWCU
