Warriors Women pipped at the post in Future Series
A fantastic week for the Women Warriors ended in slight disappointment as they lost out out to Cricket Ireland under-17’s in Friday’s first v second play-off at Stormont.
Having already beaten all three of their group opponents during the previous three days, Alana Dalzell’s side came up just two wickets short of a clean sweep against the International girls.
Zara Craig made 31 and skipper Dalzell 29 in a total of 175 as the North West team batted first- cameos from Mollie Devine (19) and Cody Wallace (17), added to 46 extras making up the bulk of the rest.
Freya Sargent bowled superbly for her figures of 5-22 from 9 overs as the Irish girls gave everyone a go with the ball.
The Warriors were guilty of too many extras too; 44 in all conceded in the reply- but an 86-run opening stand between Isabel Light and Lara McBride (who both scored 37), as well as 27 from Annabelle Squires, helped the International side to the narrow win.
