Warriors undone by impressive Reds
The North West Warriors slumped to a 115-run defeat against Munster Reds at sunny Magheramason on Monday afternoon as the visitors produced a superb all-round display to upstage the home side.
Curtis Campher and Gareth Delany both scored 98 to just miss out on thoroughly deserved centuries- Campher hitting 12 fours and a six in his 101-ball innings while Delany blasted 6 fours and 6 sixes as he increased the tempo deep into their 50 overs.
Skipper PJ Moor and Nathan McGuire added 23 apiece in a total of 306-8 with Ryan Macbeth (2-38), Graham Hume (2-40) and Craig Young (2-75) among the wickets for the Warriors.
Facing such a big target the Warriors needed to start well, but instead it was the Munster bowlers who came charging out of the blocks.
Liam McCarthy and Josh Manley bowled brilliantly in tandem and within 14 overs, the match was over as a contest.
McCarthy took three early wickets before finally finishing with 5-16 while Manley picked up a couple as the Warriors were reduced to 32-5 in reply.
An 85-run stand between Cameron Melly (44) and Jared Wilson (29) stemmed the tide for an hour, while Graham Hume’s 25 helped edge the reply towards respectability before closing on 191.
The season ends for Boyd Rankin’s charges at Stormont on Thursday when they take on the title-chasing Knights, hoping for better fortunes against the NCU team.
