Warriors unbeaten run ended by Knights

A good week for the North West Warriors in Cork ended in a 7-wicket defeat in their final Rario IPT20 game against the Northern Knights.

The two teams went into Day 3 with 100% records, but it was Simon Johnston’s team who came out on top courtesy of a good finish with the ball and some excellent batting in reply from their top order.

Chasing 164, Morgan Topping made a 28-ball 51* (6 fours, 3 sixes), Cade Carmichael added 44 from 24 (6 fours, 2 sixes) and Ruhan Pretorius 43 from 27 (6 fours and a six) as the Knights won with almost 4 overs to spare.

The Warriors looked on course for another big total at 107-3 in the 12th over of their innings but after Stephen Doheny departed for 39 (4 fours, 2 sixes) the bowlers tightened their grip.

Matthew Foster fared best with 4-30 with Tom Mayes (2-20) and Tyron Koen (2-34) also chipping in.

Skipper Shane Getkate made 29, Jared Wilson 19 and Liam Doherty 14 for the Warriors, however the last three overs yielded just 14 runs, and the Knights took the momentum with them into their chase.

Still, second place in the IPT20 table heading into next month’s second Festival at Bready constitutes a decent week’s work for Boyd Rankin’s charges.
