The 2021 cricket season draws to a conclusion this weekend as the Interprovincial T20 series is decided at Comber. Heading into the final round of fixtures it is the Warriors who top the table on 18 points with Lightning four points back in second and the Knights in third.
Although bonus points may ultimately play a part as well, a win in either of their first two matches is likely to send Gary Wilson’s charges into Sunday’s final game against Leinster with the title at stake.
On the team front, Craig Young is unavailable after picking up a slight strain in Monday’s win over Zimbabwe. Graham Hume is likely to spearhead the attack with Ryan Macbeth, Conor Olphert and Trent McKeegan also included in the travelling party.
Andy McBrine, Shane Getkate, Ross Allen, Robbie Millar, Graham Kennedy and Jared Wilson are also named in the 13-strong squad, so bowling options are plentiful.
First up for the North West on Friday is a crunch game against the hosts (10.30 start).
Victory for the visitors in that would take the Belfast side out of the equation but that will be easier said than done.
Simon Johnston’s side is likely to be strengthened by the inclusion of Paul Stirling as the season finale looks sure to be an entertaining couple of days.
The Warriors are back in action in the afternoon games (3pm start) on Saturday and Sunday against the Reds and Lightning respectively.
The best of luck to the squad as they try to win the T20 trophy for the first time in seven years.
