Warriors name squad for trip South
Selectors have made a couple of changes to the North West Warriors squad that will travel to Cork next week to take on the Munster Reds with Jared Wilson replacing the injured Conor Olphert and Varun Chopra coming in for Ross Allen. Kyle Magee also stays in the panel which has been reduced to 12 for the long trip south with Stuart Thompson unavailable.
Ardmore man Wilson has been training with the squad for several weeks now and his namesake Gary looks keen to give some of the newer faces an opportunity to get some match-day experience. The first of this season’s T20 Festivals takes place at Pembroke next weekend and while the 13-man panel has yet to be finalised, the North West has made the decision to keep the squad together next week and avail of some time as a group.
After Tuesday’s match the squad will head to Dublin and stay down until after the weekend’s tournament. Rush CC have very kindly agreed to accommodate squad sessions before the festival starts on Friday.
It’s something of a “first” in terms of preparation for a tournament, as Union General Manager Peter McCartney explained.
“It’s an opportunity for the squad to spend more time together as a group and we have also looked at reducing the travel time for the players with fixtures in Cork and Dublin in the space of a few days.
Rush CC have been very supportive in providing training facilities for the squad ahead of the T20 Festival in Pembroke and it should be a good couple of days leading into the next set of games.”
Action at the Mardyke gets under way at 10.45am on Tuesday and will be live streamed on the Cricket Ireland YouTube channel.
