Warriors name squad for Monday’s Interpro opener
The 2023 Interprovincial season gets under way this coming Monday when reigning IP50 champions Munster Reds host the North West Warriors at the Mardyke (10.45am start).
The competition will be sponsored this year by Rario Digital Cricket Collectible Platform and will see the Warriors involved in both the opening game, and also the season finale against the Northern Knights at Stormont on 7 September.
The Reds have a new Head Coach this year- former Ireland International Jeremy Bray at the helm this time- as they try to build on their first ever trophy success last season.
It’s a very tough ask first up for the visitors- Boyd Rankin confirming last week that he expects to be missing up to seven of last year’s first choice panel for the majority of this summer due to Ireland call-ups and retirements.
It will of course mean opportunities for the younger lads in the squad and although he has backfilled with some experience by including the likes of Ani Chore and Mike Erlank, seven of Monday’s travelling party are aged 22 or under. There are a number of younger players such as Gavin Roulston still to return to the squad once exams are completed.
Shane Getkate will captain the Warriors with Chore taking over the ‘keeper/batsman role vacated by Stephen Doheny.
The Warriors Head Coach will be delighted that the Ireland all-rounder is fit for the trip south as Getkate will add valuable experience to the visitors’ line-up.
Here’s hoping the weather holds firm and the Warriors can enjoy the 600-mile round trip!
