Warriors name squad for first IPT20 Festival

The North West Warriors have selected a 13-man squad for the first IPT20 Festival of the season which runs this week from Tuesday to Thursday at The Mardyke in Cork.

Availability has obviously been affected by International demands and injury, but the two most obvious changes for the Warriors is the omission of Nathan McGuire- who will play his IP cricket in Munster this season- and the inclusion of Aaron Gillespie.

Head of Selectors, Marshall Kilgore, explained the thinking behind those moves today as the squad started out on their 600-mile round trip.

“We looked at the squad available and felt that opportunities for Nathan would be limited this year. Munster provides a good chance for him; especially now that he is based in Dublin again, and we wish him all the best for the rest of the season.”

“We’ve talked with Aaron again recently and are delighted that he wants to come back into the squad. He is someone that selectors have always rated very highly and the sheer volume of runs he’s scored at Strabane this year shows that.”

There will also be one other new face in the Warriors’ corner this week with Graeme McCarter travelling as Assistant Coach to Boyd Rankin.

All three Warriors games are 11am starts with tournament hosts, Munster Reds first up on Tuesday morning.

Boyd Rankin’s charges will play Leinster Lightning on Wednesday and the Northern Knights on Thursday before starting the journey home.
