Warriors edged out by Munster in IP50 thriller

The North West Warriors ended their short sojourn south with a narrow defeat on Wednesday afternoon as Munster Reds closed out a 2-wicket win in the sides’ IP50 contest at Oak Hill.

A 37-run seventh wicket partnership between Mark Andrianatos and Carson McCullough (23) and a 33-run stand for the eighth between the former and Mike Frost (16) helped the reds recover from 143-6 chasing the Warriors’ total of 231 all out to win with just four balls to spare.

Andrianatos was there at the end (60 not out) when the winning runs were struck after Ollie Metcalfe (53) and Brandon Kruger (23) had fared best of the hosts’ top order.

Andy McBrine, Trent McKeegan and Marcello Piedt all picked up two wickets apiece for the North West side after Piedt had also played a big part with the bat.

Despite 33 from skipper McBrine and 25 from Stephen Doheny, the Warriors looked light at 123-7 before some late resistance down the order. Brigade’s Piedt hit 4 sixes and 3 fours as he made 59 batting at Number 9; sharing in a 64-run partnership with Jared Wilson who scored 48.

That allowed the Warriors close on a very respectable 231 all out- Josh Manley with three wickets and Frost, Liam McCarthy and Nicolaj Damgaard all picking up two apiece.

It wasn’t to be enough however as the Reds got over the line with little to spare.
