Warriors announce squad for opening Interpro

The North West Warriors have named a 13-man squad for Tuesday’s Interprovincial Cup opener against Leinster Lightning at Pembroke (10.45am).

It’s a mix of youth and experience for Boyd Rankin’s first competitive game in charge- selectors having kept faith with teenagers Gavin Roulston, Scott Macbeth and Nathan McGuire who were heavily involved in Monday’s friendly win against the Northern Knights at Beechgrove.

William Porterfield will again have a pivotal role at the top of the order alongside Stephen Doheny this season while Willie McClintock, Graham Kennedy, Jared Wilson and Graham Hume will give Andy McBrine plenty of options in the middle.

The bowling looks strong too despite the absence of Craig Young and Shane Getkate, both with a hand injuries. Hume, and Wilson along with Conor Olphert, Trent McKeegan and Ryan Macbeth will vie for the pace and seam roles while skipper McBrine, Kennedy, Scott Macbeth and McGuire are all capable of slowing things down if they get the nod.

It’s a tough ask for Rankin’s boys first up against the perennial champions, but it’s a challenge the new Head Coach wants his team to relish.

There are four rounds of fixtures in this competition throughout the month of May so all sides are sure to be keen to hit the ground running next week.
