Warriors annouce Under 17 Girls Interpro Squad
The NWCU have announced a strong Under 17 Girls Squad for what is set to be an historic couple of days for girls cricket in the North West.
The NWCU will play NCU Under 17 girls over a 2-day interpro series held at Foyle College. This is the first Interpro series between the two sides and represents another key step as both Unions continue to expand their talent development programmes for girls.
The teams will face each other in a 30-over game on Tuesday 6th followed by two T20 games on Wednesday 7th August. The following week the Warriors will travel to Campbell College for the return fixtures in another 2-day series.
NWCU General Manager, Peter McCartney, outlined the progress that has been made in recent months:
The next couple of weeks should be a great experience for the girls and the coaches. This will be their first taste of an Interprovinical Series and we are delighted to have both squads staying together at St Columbs Park House and then Campbell College.
The teams have already played a number of games this season and it’s a significant increase on fixtures from last year. Stephen McCartney as Head Coach as been leading the programme alongside some specialist sessions from the likes of Ian McGregor.
We hope to expand the programme further over the winter and we see real potential with this group of girls. Our Women & Girls Development Officer, Kathryn Rough, is already working hard on a clear pathway for our young players, from Under 9’s up to Under 17’s to make sure we are offering plenty of opportunities to girls in the region.
