Under-13 World Cup Finals Day on Friday

There was another packed programme at the under-13 North West World Cup on Thursday with the morning’s final group matches then followed by the afternoon’s quarter-final ties in the Cup, Shield and Plate competitions.

There were one or two big performances along the way, notable among them was South Africa (Fox Lodge) stunning England (Newbuildings) to reach Friday’s cup semi-final.

South Africa will now meet West Indies (Bready) while the other semi-final sees Australia (Donemana) take on the Isle of Man- those two semi-finals and the final taking place at Bready.

The Islanders were impressive again on Thursday- finishing their group phase with a win over Ireland (St Johnston) before beating Sri Lanka (Bonds Glen) in the last eight courtesy of a superb 30-ball century from Ollie Quinn.

The Shield semi-finals and final will be hosted by Limavady Grammar School on Friday with organisers extremely grateful to the Roe Valley college for helping out with the schedule.

England will play New Zealand- two teams who have had excellent group campaigns while Portugal will take on Sri Lanka, with the winners meeting in the afternoon decider.

Finally, the Plate semi finals will see Canada play The Netherlands at Glendermott with USA and Ireland meeting at Ardmore.

The winners of those two will clash in the final at the Rectory while the losers of the USA v Ireland match will play India in the play-off game.

Once again, congratulations to players, staff, officials and hosts for getting these games finished in very testing conditions.
