Tough start for Under-15 Girls
It was very much the start of a learning curve for the North West Under-15 Girls this week as they began their Interprovincial challenge at Belfast’s Campbell College.
In Game 1 on Monday, Coleraine’s Sophie Bourne bowled superbly for figures of 2-12 from 3 overs as Leinster 2 posted a really good total of 115.
Skipper Millie Spence top scored with 12 as the North West were bowled out for 52 in reply.
Game two saw Leinster 1 restricted to 94 thanks in no small part to three run-outs by Erin Mowbray.
The batting was again just a touch short as in the first match- Millie again top scoring in a total of 56.
We moved on to Ballyspallen on Tuesday for the last game of this phase where the NW had their NCU counterparts struggling on 12-4 before a 78-run partnership between Grace Wilson (39) and Lucy Ly (24) turned things around.
Lucy Thompson bowled brilliantly to finish with 3-17 from her 4 overs while Mansi Bhavsar was excellent too- figures of 1-8 from her four.
Jessica Cooke made 25 as her and Hannah Skinner put on 40 for the first wicket but despite middle order cameos from Millie and Mansi, the North West came up 25 runs short.
Next up is the residential part of the series where the girls will be looking to get that breakthrough win.
