Sunday round-up
It was to be a strange finale to the Long’s SuperValu Premiership season on Sunday as newly-crowned champions Brigade fell to a 68-run defeat at relegation-threatened Strabane- a result that sees the Red Caps now meet neighbours Burndennett in next Saturday’s end-of-season play-off.
Chathura Peiris hit a superb 116 (4 fours and 10 sixes) as Strabane made 213 while Rhys Logue starred with the ball as he picked up 5 wickets in Brigade’s reply.
In the other Premiership game, the umpires abandoned play and awarded the match to Glendermott in the very first over following a dispute over conditions. No formal report has been received as of yet although it has been suggested that the umpires took their course of action following requests to Ballyspallen to continue the game.
That result leaves ‘Spallen bottom of the table with all matches now complete.
In the Championship, Ardmore are promoted after they beat Killyclooney by 9 wickets- Peet Pienaar with 55 not out and Decker Curry 41 not out for the new champions who chased down a target of 134. Killyclooney also beat Fox Lodge by 9 wickets with Salman Ahmed making a half century there, but despite winning 11 of their 12 games this season- the same as Ardmore- ‘Dennett were outdone on bonus points only.
