Same again for Warriors as they bid to continue good run

The North West Warriors have named an unchanged squad for Friday’s fourth round of IP Cup games where Gary Wilson’s charges will entertain the Northern Knights at Bready. It’s the second meeting between the teams in three days after the Warriors posted a 62-run win at Stormont on Tuesday.

The Head Coach was delighted with his side’s overall performance in Belfast but insists that will have no bearing as the teams lock horns again this weekend.

“I thought our all-round game was impressive on Tuesday- the batting was really good and the boys fielded superbly as well. The bowlers were excellent too- Graham Hume has been outstanding for us in all three games so far and it’s great to see Craig Young back to his best as well.”

“It was a good day for us but that’s all it is- a good day in a competition of six days.”
Getting Paul Stirling cheaply was a huge boost for the Warriors last time but Wilson is well aware of the threat posed by the visitors.

“Of course it gives everyone a lift when you get a player of his quality for not many runs but they’re no one-man band. They bat the whole way down and we have to be ready for another challenge.”

Although the playing squad remains the same, the Warriors have made a couple of tweaks outside the rope. Raymond Curry comes into the group as 12th man as the Coach looks to give the Bonds Glen youngster a bit more match-day experience. Kevin Martin will be Wilson’s assistant for the game following on from Davy Rankin who did likewise at Stormont earlier in the week.

It’s clear that the coaching staff and selectors are determined to encourage more involvement in the Warriors set-up and it’s a move that seems to be going down well both inside and outside the squad.

Action at Magheramason gets under way at 10.45 am with the game shown live on the Cricket Ireland Youtube channel.
