Runs flow in White Horse T20 Cup

A hectic weekend of cup cricket got underway on Friday night with the penultimate scheduled round of group fixtures in the Best Western White Horse T20 competition.

In Group A, Brigade need just 3 points in their final game to be sure of topping the table after they beat Fox Lodge by 5 wickets at Beechgrove. Jonny Robinson top scored with 39 in the Ballymagorry side’s 108-5 with Iftikhar Hussain claiming 2-23 with the ball.

David Bar and Adam McDaid both scored 24 in the hosts’ reply, but it took an unbeaten 29 from skipper Andy Britton (3 sixes and a four) to seal the win with 8 balls to spare.

Burndennett stay in second place in the table with one game to go- Marcello Piedt with a 21-ball half century for them (5 sixes, 4 fours) in an 8-wicket win at Killyclooney.

Marty Mehaffey added an unbeaten 47 as ‘Dennett chased down the home side’s 133-7; Darren Moan with 63 and┬áDerek Lynch (40*) best for ‘Clooney with the bat.

In Group B, Bonds Glen continue to lead the way despite a bit of a hammering at home to Eglinton.

Heinrich Roberts made a 50-ball 79 (6 fours, 4 sixes) as the Bee Gees posted 145-9; Richard Wylie (4-21) and Mattie Mills (3-35) on the money for the villagers with the ball.

Tommy Orr (57*), Andy Millar (52) and Jamie Millar (21*) ensured the visitors left with all the points in a 9-wicket success.

Strabane are now just six points behind the leaders after another T20 masterclass by Aaron Gillespie at St Johnston.

The Red Caps’ skipper cracked 8 sixes and 5 fours in an unbeaten 94 from 56 balls to rack up an 8-wicket win.

The Saints could only muster 118-8 from their 20- Michael Rankin top scoring with 31 while Ernest Musuku picked up 3-17, but it was nowhere near enough with ‘Gilly’ in this kind of form.

As always there was just the one game in Group C where Donemana beat Newbuildings by 34 runs to leave just four points between them with one game each to play.

Dean Mehaffey hit 6 fours and 8 sixes in his 84 and Naved Sarwar added 48 in the home side’s total of 179-6.

Jared Wilson returned figures of 3-38 for Newbuildings who were then bowled out themselves for 145 in reply.

Mark Hanna top scored with 44 of those with Wilson and Ross Dougherty adding 26 apiece. Sam Huey (3-17), Levi Dougherty (3-34) and Gary Neely (2-12) ensured however that the home side comfortably held on.

In Group D, Coleraine are now in the driving seat after a 59-run win at home to Bready.

A half century from Scott Campbell helped the Bannsiders to a competitive total of 155 and it was to prove beyond Davy Scanlon’s side who could only muster 96 all out in reply.

Ardmore kept pace at the top as they recorded a 21-run win over Ballyspallen at Bridge Park.

This turned out to be a real run-fest with Dave Bezzant smashing 10 sixes and 6 fours in his excellent 109 as Ardmore set a target of 199.

Unperturbed, the home side set off in chase with Demith Perera hitting 9 fours and 6 sixes in his 97 while Stephen Kennedy added 45.

It was to prove just beyond ‘Spallen in the end though as they closed on 178-4 in a lively contest.
