Rachel McBrine reports on this week’s Women’s League action
Burndennett go six points clear at the top of the ladies’ league after securing a fantastic 9 wicket victory over Fox Lodge this past Monday night in Strabane Park.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Burndennett got all the action started early as bowlers Julie Logue (1-12) and Leanne Brandon (1-19) displayed an accurate display of bowling by picking up the first two wickets of Toni Miller (0) and Hannah McLaughlin (2) in the opening two overs.
With batswomen, Sarah Black (40) and Mollie Devine (21) now taking center stage the pair displayed a strong partnership and got the total to 63 in 12 overs.
At this point everything seemed plan sailing for the Saints but with Maria McGettigan (1-16) now with the ball things took a turn on its head as she picked up the vital wicket of Black in the fourteenth over.
Only six overs remaining after Black’s dismissal, it was now the mission of Devine and new batswomen, Angel Laird (5*) to gain as many runs as possible.
Another change of the bowling from Kacey Laird (1-4) proved to be a threat as Devine played an unfortunate shot and was then out by LBW.
A short cameo from Lucy Blair (4*) alongside Laird steered the Foxies to a final total of 82 off 20 overs.
The reply got off to a shaky start as Burndennett lost opening batswoman Kylie McGarrigle (0) in the opening over courtesy of excellent bowling from Lucy Blair (1-6)
Julie Logue (39*) and Megan McGettigan (30*) changed the course of the game as the pair pushed the total to 68 in just thirteen overs.
With the total now at 72 and only 11 runs required and five overs remaining it seemed plain sailing for the pair as they were able to chase the remaining runs in just four balls allowing Burndennett to pick up another fantastic victory.
