Olphert and Hume awarded Cricket Ireland contracts
Conor Olphert and Graham Hume have been awarded Cricket Ireland contracts today as selectors look to increase their bowling options ahead of a busy year of International competition.
The North West pair, along with Munster Reds’ Fionn Hand, will take up their roles with immediate effect having impressed at Interprovincial level over the last couple of seasons.
Olphert burst onto the IP scene in 2020 and was taken to the UAE as a net bowler last year although opportunities were obviously minimised during that time due to the pandemic.
The 25-year old has certainly hit his straps with both Bready and the Warriors since then, and is now bowling with as much pace and aggression as at any time in his career.
Few will be surprised to see Hume given his chance either after a string of excellent performances under both Gary Wilson and Boyd Rankin.
The affable South African is a permanent fixture in the Warriors set-up and one of the most consistent performers in the Interprovincial series. He is also a very capable batsman at that level and like his team-mate, will be a more than useful option for Head Coach Heinrich Malan over the coming months.
Congratulations to all three of the newly contracted players and here’s hoping they get their chance to shine.
