NWCU welcomes NI Executive announcement and confirms proposed season start date
The NWCU has welcomed the positive announcement from the NI Executive of a return to competitive cricket in Northern Ireland.
We will continue to work together with Cricket Ireland, NCU, Sport NI and Department for Communities to ensure a safe return to cricket in accordance with government guidelines. An announcement on the season structure will be made in due course however it is expected the season will commence on Saturday 8th May.
The NWCU is encouraged to see a return to local cricket in Northern Ireland on the horizon, however all clubs are reminded that current guidelines must be followed regarding training group sizes and Return to Train protocols. Further advice on match-day protocols will be issued to clubs as soon as details are finalised. We will also continue monitor the situation in the Republic of Ireland and how the Irish Government plans impact our clubs operating in Donegal.
The NWCU will hold a Club Forum next week on 21st April to outline the upcoming season and ‘Return to Play’ protocols. Details on how to register will be issued to clubs later this week.
