NWCU squads set to return in February
The NWCU is hopeful of starting training sessions again in early February for the various Warriors squads.
Following NI Executive announcements around proposed restrictions in January, the NWCU is planning to start training sessions at the beginning of February. These sessions would be initially for U17 and U15 Boys plus U23 and U15 Girls. With limited group sizes it is likely the sessions will be held in a number of venues around the North West, to allow every opportunity for players to take part.
Peter McCartney, General Manager, outlined the pre-season plans:
“We had initially hoped to start again in January but that’s been pushed back due to Covid restrictions. We are now preparing to start early February with our Warriors squads for boys and girls. This will be done in small group sessions due to restrictions around numbers. The aim is to spread the sessions around different locations across the North West to help parents and players as much as possible.
We showed in the summer how adaptable we can be and we will have the same approach now in the winter and spring. Training is going to start off with the girls U23s and U15s plus the boys U17s and U15s. We will then look to add in sessions and camps for some of the younger squads as well.
Our Senior and Emerging Warriors are also due to start back in early February but if restrictions allow us to bring forward that date it would be a real positive. We are hopeful of having a busy few months for all squads before the season starts at the end of April.
We are also looking into options for indoor and astro leagues pre-season. For our younger players especially, we want to see them back playing cricket as soon as possible.”
Details on registration, dates and venues will be released at the start of the New Year. Please note that all programmes are subject to NI Executive restrictions.
