NWCU launch new Youth Indoor League

The NWCU have launched a new Youth Indoor League starting in October.

Indoor cricket is a fast-paced, action-packed version of the game suitable for all levels, with easy-to-follow rules and an emphasis on fun and fitness. The NWCU are set to run regional games at U10, U12 and U14 level with a separate U14 Girls tournament. Games will be 6 a-side, T10 and lasting an hour.

Details have been issued to clubs today with regional centres in Strabane, Artigarvan, Bready, Newbuildings, Londonderry, Limavady and Coleraine. It is planned to host the games on Friday nights over a 6-week period with a grand finals day at the end of the regional leagues.

The NWCU Participation Officer, David Scanlon, explained the new concept:

I want to ensure that we continue the good work over the summer and we don’t see any drop off due to the lack of a full season.

We are therefore trying to find ways to provide opportunities for Junior cricket between now and the end of the year. The new indoor league will start next month and with games being 6 a-side it should help with clubs entering teams. It’s brilliant fun and a really good option for us over the winter months.

Emails have gone out today to all clubs and I’d urge any club interested to get in touch with me.
