North West Women’s squad named for Knights challenge
The NWCU has named their squad for this Sunday’s Women’s’ Interpro game between themselves and the Northern Knights Women at Belfast’s Pirrie Park. The first game of the two-match series scheduled for the North West was cancelled because of the covid restrictions at the time, so there are certainly bragging rights at stake this weekend.
The Warriors side will be led by Bready’s Alana Dalzell who is joined in the squad by her club-mates Jemma Rankin and Sophie Killen. Bready have really hit the ground running in the Women’s League this season and those three players have certainly contributed to that good form.
Fox Lodge’s Mollie Devine is another player in good form at present and she is vice-captain of the team. The Foxies have four players named in the 12 with Lucy Neely, Hannah McLaughlin and Lucy Blair joining Mollie on the trip.
Eglinton’s Zara Craig is usually one of the first names on the team-sheet and is so again while Coleraine pair Kia McCartney and Eva Gaston are deservedly called up after impressive performances for the Bannsiders this summer.
Strabane wicket-keeper Lucy McGranaghan has also impressed selectors and she and Killyclooney’s Cody Wallace make up the panel that will take on what is sure to be a very strong Belfast side. Brian Allen and Anji Porter-McHugh are the coaches for the squad and the 40-over game starts at 12 noon.
The North West side in full is-
Alana Dalzell (capt), Mollie Devine (vice capt), Zara Craig, Lucy Blair, Eva Gaston, Sophie Killen, Lucy McGranaghan, Kia McCartney, Hannah McLaughlin, Lucy Neely, Jemma Rankin, Cody Wallace.
