North West Women win in Belfast

The North West women’s team recorded a deserved 3-wicket win over the NCU in Belfast on Sunday afternoon to claim the honours in the challenge series restricted to one game due to the earlier covid protocols.

Batting first the home side made 148 due in no small part to a late rally that saw Natasha Morton bat really well for her 30. Amy Caulfield made 26 at the top of the order with Amy Benson making 21, while the visitors bowled well throughout.

Alana Dalzell picked up 3-11 with Mollie Devine providing excellent support with 3-13 to keep their side right in the game. Kia McCartney weighed in with 2-29 while Jemma Rankin (1-11) and a run-out accounted for the other wicket to fall.

In reply the North West started well- Alana making 32 while Jemma steadied the middle order with 27, however the final say was to go to Lucy Neely. The Fox Lodge teenager played a superb innings- hitting 7 fours in her 45 not out as the visitors got home with 3 wickets to spare.

A brilliant effort from everyone involved, including coaches Anji Porter-McHugh and Brian Allen. Well done all!
