North West Warriors U13 Girls squad announced
In another first for girl’s cricket in the North West, the Warriors Girls U13’s will play the first ever Interprovincial game against Northern Knights U13s.
Following on from a successful winter programme, since July more than 30 girls at Under 13 level have been training weekly at Foyle College with NWCU coaches. This will be the first time in Ireland that an Interprovincial game between U13 Girls teams will have taken place and is part of a 5-match series with the NCU at U23, U19, U15 and U13 level.
Alana Dalzell, North West Warrior and Ireland U19 International, who made her debut for Bready 1st XI at the weekend, explained the difference between now and when she started:
“It’s really good to see so many young girls coming through and playing cricket with almost 40 girls at U13s training. When I was young it was really just me playing in the boy’s teams so it’s pretty different now which is great”
Kathryn Rough, Women & Girl’s Development Officer, was excited by the new team:
“After the first 3 games we are hoping for another successful day at Interpros, this time with the U13 Girls Warriors. After a busy winter programme and really well attended summer training sessions these girls have excelled and will travel to North Down on Tuesday to play their counterparts in the NCU. This is a first for the NW to have a girls team at this level. I know the coaches found the choice for the team difficult to make from a squad of over 30 girls.
It’s encouraging to see players from clubs like Ballyspallen who are just starting to develop a girl’s team and hopefully the foundations we are putting in place now at youth level with help us in years to come.”
