North West Run Umpires Course
A new team of potential North West Umpires started going through their paces on Sunday afternoon under the watchful eyes of Davy Caldwell, Dermot Ward and current International official, Roly Black. The Level 1 course is being held at Glendermott CC and will continue next weekend with delegates sure to benefit from such quality tuition.
Umpires’ numbers have been dwindling of late but the local Association is hopeful that the new members will make themselves available during the forthcoming summer. “DW” pointed to the progress of Roly Black over the past few seasons as evidence of the rewards on offer for a career in umpiring.
“It’s good to see these lads wanting to put something back into the sport locally but there are also huge opportunities as well. Roly has gone on to become one of the top umpires in Ireland and has just returned from a few weeks in Dubai where he stood in the tri-nations tournament that Ireland won.”
“We’re always on the look-out for umpires and we’re here to help anyone who wants to come along.”
