North West Pays Tribute To David Holmes

David-HolmesThe North West Cricket Union has paid tribute to News Letter cricket correspondent David Holmes following the 54-year old’s untimely passing at the weekend.

Union Chairman Andrew Fleming said the loss of the hugely popular reporter would be sorely felt throughout the Irish cricket family.

“David was more than a cricket reporter- he was a highly respected and very knowledgeable supporter of the game here.

“His bright and breezy nature made him great company around the boundary and although I only got to know him well in the past year or so, it is clear from today’s outpouring of grief the esteem in which he was held.

“Everyone will have their little story and mine is getting locked in at Stormont with him and our General Manager Peter McCartney after the washed out game against the West Indies just a few months ago. We were last to leave but he was quick to see the funny side of our quandary, even at the time.

“On behalf of the North West, I’d like to send deepest condolences to David’s immediate family and indeed the wider circle as well at this awful time.

“Our thoughts are also very much with his colleagues at the News Letter and obviously the NCU cricket family for whom his loss will be particularly felt.”

May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.
