No surprises in women’s senior cup quarter-finals
Despite the weather, all four of Monday night’s women’s cup matches were played to a conclusion with this season’s ‘big two’, Bready and Fox Lodge both progressing to the semi-finals where they will be joined by Coleraine and Killyclooney.
Bready posted a 30-run verdict over Eglinton where Alana Dalzell led from the front for the champions. Alana made 37 in the visitors total of 102-8 but the Magheramason side were reigned in a touch by Lauren Whiteside and Rosie McHugh who picked up three wickets each.
The total proved beyond the home team however, and despite an unbroken stand between Megan McClintock (30) and Lucy Carmichael (18), two wickets for Dalzell helped put Bready in the hat for the semi-finals.
Fox Lodge had a fairly similar result at home to Strabane as Emma Allen top scored for them with 17 in their 92-6. Emma Doherty helped herself to a couple of wickets, however the Park side were unable to keep pace in reply.
Kylie McGarrigle and Anji Porter dug in at the top of the order, but Kara Bates fared best of a strong bowling performance from the Foxes as Strabane were restricted to 60-2.
Coleraine are through as well- Eva Gaston’s unbeaten 37 and 15 from Georgia Miller helping the Bannsiders chase down Newbuildings’ total of 80-3. McGarrigle’s 33 not out certainly gave the visitors something to defend but the hosts were always in control.
It was much the same story at Killyclooney where 40 not out from skipper Cody Wallace, 27 from Charlene Dougherty and 25 from Amber Nicholl saw the hosts post 102-2 as they batted first. Two wickets apiece for Gail Nelson and Jemma Wallace kept the Bee Gees at arms length in reply- the visitors closing on 52-6 as Clooney made it through as well.
