Newbuildings beat Brigade to claim Faughan Valley Cup
Newbuildings produced an inspired performance at picturesque Bonds Glen on Sunday afternoon as Jared Wilson’s side wrestled away the title of North West T20 champions from the Beechgrove outfit.
It is a massive week for the village side who take on Fox Lodge in the upcoming Sports Hub NW Senior Cup final and they started on the right note with an impressive win here.
Having been asked to bat first by Andy Britton, Newbuildings were indebted to 39 from Johnny Thompson (3 fours, 3 sixes) and 34 from Gareth McKeegan (3 fours, 3 sixes) as they posted what looked like a below-par 149 all out.
Britton (3-33) and Jamie Millar (3-40) did the bulk of the damage with the ball; however Brigade were soon in trouble in reply.
David Barr was harder to shift than most as he made 20 at the top of the order, however apart from Graeme McCarter’s 17- no-one else made it to double figures in a total of 72.
Trent McKeegan bowled well up top without much reward and ‘JT’ claimed 2-16 early on to rattle the holders.
Ross Hunter was again productive with 2-19 but it was Gary Mitchell who ripped the game away.
The medium pacer stepped up with figures of 5-12 from his 4 overs and Brigade simply had no answers as the party started early for the new T20 champions.
