Mixed emotions as Emerging Warriors lose to Ireland u-19’s

There was a slightly surreal feel at Eglinton today as the Emerging Warriors lost out to an Ireland under-19 side in the first of a busy month-long programme of games for the Provinces’ development teams.

Jack Dickson top scored for the Irish boys as they batted first; the Instonians player hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes in his 49. Dickson was backed by North West Warriors batsman Nathan McGuire who made a quick 33 (7 fours) and then St Johnston’s Scott Macbeth who added 41 not out in a final total 162-5 from 20 overs.

Graham Kennedy fared best of the home bowlers with 2-7 from 2 overs while Ryan Macbeth, Reece Kelly and Rachit Gaur all claimed one each.

The Emerging Warriors reply started off well enough as Kyle Magee (15) and David Barr (14) put on 30 in the first four overs. After that however the wheels came off the wagon and the only other player to make double figures was Trent McKeegan batting at number 10, who made 12 not out.

In between times the bowlers called the shots- Cameron Doak exceptional with 4-12 from 4 overs. Once again though there was a local feel to the defeat as McGuire picked up 3-14 and Eglinton’s Robbie Millar 2-7 as the innings closed on 82 all out- a defeat of 80 runs for the young Warriors.

The hosts will be hoping for better when they entertain the Emerging Knights at Ardmore on Thursday.
