Key battles ahead as T20 and senior league tables take shape

Lawrence Moore rounds up this weekend’s senior fixtures with up-to-date league and T20 tables

We’re heading into Round 6 of fixtures in the Long’s SuperValu senior league this Saturday with some fascinating matches in store as teams head towards the mid-way point of their league campaign.

A bit of a gap has started to emerge between the top seven and the rest, however quite a few of the chasers have already sat our their ‘odd number week’ and the stagger has yet to unwind for them.

It’s Eglinton’s turn to be out of action on Saturday and the villagers are one of the sides who will be keen to get back to winning ways over the next few weeks so that they can reach the turn in a challenging position.

Glendermott are still without a point at the foot of the table and Ben Mills’ side welcome fourth placed Donemana to the Rectory at the weekend.

If you’re looking to kick-start your campaign, the Holm team is hardly the first invite you’d send out, but while they look completely up against it, maybe it’s the type of challenge the hosts will relish.

Second-placed Killyclooney are already well set to challenge for a Premier Division place next season and if they pull another rabbit out of the hat at home to Newbuildings on Saturday, it would leave them jut a win or two short of that target.

Blayde Capell went over the 1000 runs for the season barrier in their heavy National Cup defeat last Sunday and ‘Clooney will look to him to again lead the charge against the reigning champions.

Newbuildings have been a little inconsistent so far but had shown signs of recovery of late. Their need is slightly greater in this one and I can see them coming away with the points here.

One of the games of the day could be at the Park where Strabane entertain Coleraine.

These two sides will be involved in the battle for the top half with the Bannsiders holding the Aces at present.

Key for the Red Caps will be the availability or otherwise of Aaron Gillespie over the next few weeks and the skipper’s presence has certainly been missed of late.

Coleraine themselves aren’t always able to field their first choice XI’s and while both teams have enough quality to make it, the outcome here could well depend on the respective line-ups.

Elsewhere, Bready should have too many guns for St Johnstone and it’s very difficult to imagine leaders Brigade coming unstuck at home to Burndennett.

It’s a similar story at Ardmore where the home team will be hot favourites to make it four wins out of five when they entertain Ballyspallen while in-form Fox Lodge will bid to continue a very impressive run of form against Bonds Glen.

Once again, there’s another programme of T20 cricket on Thursday night with the pick of them being another clash between Brigade and Donemana at Beechgrove.
