Ireland under-17 girls lead T20 challenge in Netherlands

Ireland’s under-17 girls fought back really well in Utrecht this afternoon as Day Two ended all square, leaving the visitors with a 2-1 lead with just one game left to play.

With the Irish girls having finished Tuesday with a 1-0 lead and one game tied, the Dutch then levelled the series first up this morning in a low scoring encounter.
Kristine Smits (14) and Robin Schmidt (13) were best with the bat in the hosts’ total of 72 all out.
Isabel Light (3-13) and Kia McCartney (2-12) led the bowling returns, but Ireland found the going tough in reply.
Isabel top scored with 14 while Freya Sargent made 13 not out as their side were bowled out for 55.
To be fair, the visitors bounced straight back in the afternoon session.
Schmidt batted well again to make 24 but Ellie McGee (3-12), Jenny Jackson (1-7), Sargent (1-8) and Evey Keenan (1-11) kept Ireland in it as the Netherlands closed on 92-7.
Lara McBride made 24, sharing a 47-run stand with Annabel Squires (22) and Alice Walsh added 20 to ensure the visitors chased down the target with six wickets to spare.
