Future Warriors Program Gets Under Way
The NW Emerging Warriors programme got underway at the weekend as the Under-15 and Under-17 squads went through the Player Screening process under the watchful eye of Kevin Gallagher and the local “Your Physio” trainers.
The players were assessed both individually and collectively in a number of sessions with NW General Manager Peter McCartney and the Union’s Coaches on hand to oversee the day’s events.
The sessions were very well attended and are the precursor to a busy winter for those involved.
Regional GM McCartney said that the NWCU was determined to put proper structures in place to support the next generation of Interprovincial players and that it was now up to each individual to make the most of the opportunity.
“A new development programme has been at the top of our Agenda and I’m delighted to see the first seeds of that now being sown. We are delighted to have Kevin join us alongside physiotherapists Stephen and Conor from Your Physio. These are people who have worked with elite professional and Olympic athletes at the highest level and it means that our young players are getting the best help available.”
“Once the screening process is complete we will move very quickly onto the next part of the programme- fitness assessments and training. Hopefully the lads involved and indeed their clubs will see the benefits of this process in the coming weeks and months.”
