Foxies land another Women’s Senior Cup

Fox Lodge lifted the Women’s senior cup for the fifth time in six years on Tuesday night as they beat league winners Bready by 15 runs in near darkness at Magheramason.

It was a credit to both clubs and officials that they showed the determination to get the game played to its natural conclusion despite the awful overhead conditions.

Both teams have out and out match-winners in their teams and it was one of them- Mollie Devine- who gave the Foxies a real foot-hold in the final with a superb half century.

The Dragons all-rounder hit 4 fours and 3 sixes in her 50-ball 56 with Sarah Black and Hannah McLaughlin (12 apiece) the only other batters to get into double figures in a total of 114-5 from 20 overs.

Cody Wallace (2-12) was the pick of the Bready bowlers and the diminutive all-rounder can count herself very unfortunate to finish on the losing side as she also top scored with 38 not out in the reply.

Ireland International Alana Dalzell was another out of luck batter as well and her dismissal really rocked the home side.

In truth, despite Cody’s efforts and 13 from Charlie Scott, Bready never recovered but the Foxies’ bowlers take an awful lot of credit for that.

Lucy Neely bowled brilliantly for figures of 2-14, including a double wicket maiden that turned the game on its head after Bready took the lead on DLS.

Tanisha Hussain also picked up 2 wickets but the late overs from Lucy, Mollie (0-8 from 4), Kara Bates (1-14 from 4) and maybe even especially from young Elle Moore (1-13 from 3) saw the cup head back to Ballymagorry.
