Fox Lodge defeat Killyclooney in Women’s League

Rachel McBrine reports on last night’s Women’s League game

Fox Lodge picked up the vital points they needed to secure second place in the North West Ladies League as they narrowly defeat local rivals Killyclooney.
Losing the toss Killyclooney were put into bat first and due to damp conditions, the overs were agreed to be cut to 16 overs.

Jessica McDonald’s side start didn’t go to plan by losing 3 of their opening batswomen in just three overs and with the total sitting at just 20 for 3 it wasn’t the expected start they hoped for.
Posing the bowling threat came from Mollie Devine with figures of 2-13 along with Cara Bates (1-16) and Lucy Blair (1-16).

Charlene Dougherty made her presence known in her first game this season by posting 15 while at the other end Ellie McCarron chipped in with an unbeaten 7 runs that help steer the final total to 58 off 16 overs.

The response was idyllic for the Foxies as they didn’t hold back as the dominate force from batswomen Sarah Black (30*) and Mollie Devine (21*) chased the total in just 10 overs.
Best with the ball for Killyclooney was Gail Nelson with only 14 runs hit off her 4 overs.

Speaking after the game, skipper Hannah McLaughlin said, ‘’ I am delighted with tonight’s performance

My girls have worked hard and with our second victory this week we hope to keep up the winning ways in hopes to get to the top of the league table
.
Thanks’ to Killyclooney for giving us a very competitive game tonight, at one point I didn’t think the game would go ahead due to the damp conditions.’’
