Fox Lodge and Strabane secure Monday night wins
League leaders Bready sat out Monday’s round of fixtures this week, giving the chasing pack the opportunity to close in and it was Fox Lodge who took maximum advantage with a narrow 2-run win over Coleraine.
The Foxies’ victory was all the more impressive given that they never lost a wicket- Sarah Black and Lucy Neely batting out the whole 20 overs to set a target of 120.
Sarah hit 6 fours in her 65 not out with Lucy adding an unbeaten 33 and although it was a superb effort from both batters, Coleraine certainly didn’t feel they were out of it at half way.
Amy Caulfield didn’t seem put off and she was rock solid at the top of the Bannsiders’ order, hitting a superb 66 not out (8 fours) in the reply.
Kia McCartney batted well for her 22, but the all-rounder’s run-out, with the score on 101-2 saw Coleraine lose their momentum.
Lower order wickets for Kara Bates and Lucy Blair saw this young Coleraine side fall an agonising 2-runs short on 118-6.
There was precious little between the teams in this one and that will surely give the visitors a lot of confidence heading into next week’s senior cup matches.
Just down the road at the Park, Strabane had a comfortable 50-run win over Eglinton.
Hazel Britton top scored with 36 (5 fours) while Chloe Deans made a valuable 21 not out in a total of 122-3 as the hosts batted first. Lucy Carmichael (2-11) was best with the ball for the villagers.
The reply struggled to gain any momentum if truth be told; Carmichael and Alice McLaughlin with 10 apiece, the only batters to make it to double figures as Eglinton were all out for 72.
Meghan Moorehead (2-10), Emma Doherty (2-13) and Naomi Wasson (2-20) all bowled well to help the Red Caps to the win.
