Fox Lodge and Eglinton progress in Women’s Senior Cup

The semi-final line-up for the Women’s Senior Cup was confirmed on Sunday afternoon after Fox Lodge beat Bonds Glen and Eglinton saw off Newbuildings to see those two join Bready and Strabane in the last four draw.

An unbroken 113-run partnership between Lucy Neely and Mollie Devine saw holders Fox Lodge cruise to a 9-wicket win at sunny Ballymagorry. Lucy finished on 54* and Mollie on 47* as the Foxies won with more than 11 overs to spare.

The Bee Gees had batted well first up with Jessica Cooke top scoring with 26 in a first innings total of 117 all out. Steph Wilkinson chipped in with 19, Carol Scott 16 not out, Lucy Thompson 15 and Emily Young 14, while all the home bowlers were on form.

Lucy Neely (2-17), Elle Moore (2-19) and Kara Bates (2-26) fared best while there were wickets too for Lucy Blair, Tanisha Hussain and Mollie.

Earlier in the day, Eglinton beat Newbuildings by 66 runs at the village venue; Jenni Jackson (19), Arianna McKenna (17) and Alice McLaughlin (17) doing best in the home side’s total of 108 as they batted first.

We have to give a special mention to Katie Guy who returned superb figures of 6-14 to ensure that Newbuildings stayed in the game, but her efforts were to be ultimately in vain.

In reply, nobody on the Newbuildings team got going with the bat and a couple of really good spells of bowling from Alice (3-12) and Lucy Carmichael (4-11) saw the hosts record an easy win.

The draw for the semi-finals will take place early next week.
