Emerging Warriors win MCC challenge game

The North West Warriors Emerging XI came out narrowly on top in an entertaining contest with Shami Ahmed’s MCC Select at Strabane Park this afternoon.

Spectators were treated to plenty of sunshine and a superb knock from John Anderson who made 85 in the MCC’s total of 207-8 in 40 overs.

The Merrion batsman played shots to all parts of the ground; sharing in a 66-run stand with Aaron Gillespie (30) and then 79 with Ravindra Karunaratne who made 49.

Ardmore pair Tyron Koen (2-21) and Dhram Singh (2-32) along with Brigade’s Ryan Macbeth (2-32) were best with the ball for the Warriors.

Singh was in fine form with the bat too- 9 fours and a six in his 49 as Boyd Rankin’s side’s top order got them off to a flyer.

Tommy Orr added 35 and Matthew Hutchinson 31 before Karunaratne (3-28) and Anderson (3-36) turned providers with the ball to apply the brakes.

Koen (33) though put the Warriors ahead again late on before Ryan Macbeth (13*) and Ryan Clarke (6*) secured the win with just three deliveries to spare.

A great day, very well hosted by Strabane CC and with the weather playing ball throughout.
