Emerging Warriors on top at Beechgrove

The Emerging Warriors are on the board in the Future Series after a narrow 4-run win over Ireland’s under-19’s at Beechgrove this afternoon. It was a game in which both teams found scoring difficult with the Warriors holding off a late rally to claim the spoils.

Tommy Orr made 32 and Varun Chopra 30 as the Warriors used their full 45 overs to post a total of 168 all out. Jared Wilson added 19, James McKillop 17, and Aaron Gillespie 16 as plenty of batsmen got starts but were unable to really kick on.

Eglinton’s Robbie Millar enjoyed a superb day in Ireland colours- the Eglinton all-rounder claiming 3-25 to head the bowling stakes backed up by Matthew Tonge (2-11) and Matthew Humphreys (2-29). Millar then led the under-19’s reply as he made 34- the highest individual score of the day with Tim Tector (23), Humphreys (23), Cameron Doak (22*) and Andrew Tonge (20) all chipping in with cameos as well.

Ireland needed 11 to win from the final over bowled by Ryan Macbeth, but the Brigade man kept it to just 6 as he claimed figures of 3-24. Three earlier run-outs did little to help the visitors cause as they closed on 164-9, coming up just short in a tense finish.
